Adventure Time is definitely not the first 'kids' cartoon to make it big, particularly on the internet. It is quite possible that there is more Spongebob Squarepants memes than Confession Bear memes in existence. It may be the nostalgia, it may be the subtle innuendo or it may be the depth of the story lines, but for some reason the internet is completely obsessed with Adventure Time.
The main activity of the Adventure Time fandom is the creation of ‘gifs’ from different scenes of the series. They capture the goofy quotes, odd images and offbeat moments. These gifs are often taken out of context and make the show seem even more bizarre.
But the silly catchphrases, bright colours and garish characters are used to present very real stories, sometimes dark possibilities and mature opinions.
