Mad Men is all about class, and inner conflict. The AMC television series, created by Matthew Weiner, follows key characters such as Don Draper (Jon Hamm), Betty Draper (January Jones), Peggy Olsen (Elizabeth Moss), Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) and Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) as they compete in a sexed up advertising agency on Madison Avenue, New York, named Sterling Cooper Draper Price. The show starts off stylized and smooth, focusing on Draper and his male colleagues as they drink scotch in their offices and smoke like chimneys (maybe worse than that), then venture out into the agency to seduce their secretaries and take long lunches in smoky bars. As the series progresses, we see early on that no one, not even Don Draper, is impervious to family problems, insecurities and lack of imagination. The series emphasizes the changing role of women in the workplace throughout the 60s and 70s, and the family problems which explode behind closed doors.
