The first season may have had less than a million viewers, but by the premier of the fifth season the number of viewers had quadrupled. The oddest part of this fan base is the demographic of this audience. Being a Mad Men fan is quite an elite group to associate with. Most are rich; with apparently half of the viewer’s making more than $100,000 per year.
The devoted fans analyse each episode in amazing depth, looking for the historical references and making sure the facts are accurate. There are blogs dedicated to the analysis of different aspects of the show, ranging from week-by-week documentation to historical fashion blogs.
There are less serious aspects to this as well, with creation of the ‘Sad Don Draper’ meme or the music video of Pete getting punched. However the most defining aspect of this fandom is the seriousness and depth of analysis fans dedicate to each episode.
